Gregory W. Barker, age 88, of Little Cedar, died Wednesday, November 11, 2015, at the Faith Home in Osage.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 18, 2015, at Little Cedar United Methodist Church in Little Cedar with Rev. Dr. Rhoda Preston officiating. Burial will be in the Osage Cemetery with military honors at the grave by Osage V.F.W. Post 7920. Visitation will be from 4:30 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage.
For those unable to attend the funeral service, the family welcomes them to join them for lunch and fellowship at 11:15 a.m. Wednesday at the Osage V.F.W. Club.
Gregory was born May 2, 1927, to George and Mary (Murphy) Barker, on the family farm near Little Cedar, Iowa. He graduated from Little Cedar High School in 1945. On July 15, 1951, he married Phyllis Thompson at the First United Methodist Church in Osage. Gregory lived on the family farm all of his life, except for the two years from January 1955 to January 1957 that he served in the U.S. Army.
Gregory was a member of the Little Cedar United Methodist Church. He served as a church youth leader and a 4-H leader for many years. Gregory loved to be on the farm – in the field or with the livestock. He enjoyed following his family in sporting events, woodworking, the Mitchell County Fair, and participating in organized tractor rides.
Gregory is survived by his daughter, Linda (Neil) Schroeder and their children, Martin (Allison) Schroeder, and Stacy (Nick) Haddad and children, Andrew and Isaac; his son, Galen (Audrey) Barker and their children, Garrett (Nicole) Barker and children, Madison and Kinsley, and Brittany Barker and son, Lane; his son, Gorden (Kim) Barker and their children, Dustin Barker and Colin Barker; his son, Glen (Carrie) Barker and their children, Brandon Barker, Brett Barker and Breana Barker; and sisters-in-law, Charlotte Barker, Shirley Sletten, Irene Thompson and Pat Thompson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Phyllis Barker in 2003; brother, Dean Barker; sister, Helen Young; and brothers-in-law, Charles Young, Dean Thompson, Marvin Thompson and Darrell Sletten.
