Mary Jane Bergan, age 72, of Osage, passed away Monday, August 24, 2015, at Mercy Medical Center - North Iowa in Mason City.
A celebration of Mary’s life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 28, 2015, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Osage with Pastor Lance Kittleson officiating. Inurnment will take place in the Hauge Lutheran Cemetery, rural Decorah, Iowa. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 5:00 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage.
Mary Bergan, daughter of Norman and Agnes (Anderson) Aga, was born February 25, 1943, in Decorah, Iowa. Mary attended schools in Ridgeway and Cresco, graduating from Cresco High School with the class of 1960. She attended Young’s School of Beauty in Waterloo, graduating in 1961 and working in salons in Decorah and Osage. Mary was a beautician and owner/operator of a salon for over 54 years.
Mary was united in marriage to Arnold Duane Bergan on August 17, 1963, at Lincoln Lutheran Church in Ridgeway. Arnold and Mary moved to Osage where to their union, three children were born. She was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran church. Her hobbies included snowmobiling, golfing, bowling and vacationing with Arnold and her three children and seven grandchildren.
Mary is survived by her husband of 52 years, Arnold of Osage; her son, Jeff (Sharyn) Bergan of Norwalk, her daughter, Jodie (Terry) Weeks of Ankeny, and her son, Jay (Charlotte) Bergan of Des Moines; grandchildren, Samuel, Emily, Nicholas and Taylor Bergan of Norwalk, Isabell and Sophia Weeks of Ankeny, and Jessica Bergan of Des Moines; a sister, Normie (Donald) Ferrie of Cresco; a brother, David (Theresa) Aga of Ridgeway; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents.
