DIES AT WATERLOO,
ILL FOR SHORT TIMEE.A. Bascombe, 67, almost a life-time resident of Mitchell county, passed away at a Waterloo hospital last Friday after an acute illness of about two hours.
Mr. Bascombe went to Waterloo about three years ago to assist his only child, Eugene Bascombe who operates a grocery business. Several routes are covered in the vicinity of Waterloo for delivery of groceries and for buying poultry, eggs, etc., and the elder Mr. Bascombe acted as one of the drivers until his health began to fail.
He was born at Stacyville, Iowa, and married Ada Gifford at that place. They farmed at several places in the county and was operating a farm near St. Ansgar prior to his going to Waterloo. His wife died about ten years ago.
Surviving Mr. Bascombe is the son named above; his three sisters, Mrs. A. E. Peterson, Clear Lake, Mrs. George White, Fargo, North Dakota, and Mrs. Lela George, of Des Moines.
He is survived by a number of cousins in this vicinity, including Hartley and Earl Penney. Mr. Bascombe's mother, before her marriage, was Alice Penney, a sister to Hartley and Earl's father, Sam Penney. Fred Bascombe is also a relative.
A funeral service was held in Waterloo and the body brought to the Mitchell cemetery for interment beside his wife. The Rev. T.P., Solem conducted a short service at the grave.
