Helen M. Duck, age 95, of Osage, died Tuesday, July 21, 2015, at the Osage Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Osage.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 25, 2015, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Osage with Rev. Bryan Lagerstam officiating. Burial will be in the Osage Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage.
Helen was born April 28, 1920, in Devils Lake, North Dakota, the daughter of John and Julia (Knutson) Lee. Helen was united in marriage to Murray Duck at the Little Brown Church on February 14, 1941. The family thought it was quite something that Helen was from North Dakota and Murray was from Kansas, but they met in Osage. They lived in Kansas for 18 months before moving to Iowa in December 1942. They farmed in the Osage area until 1983, when they retired and moved to Osage.
Helen was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, the Osage VFW and Osage American Legion Auxiliaries. She played the accordion for a number of years in the VFW Kitchen Klatter Band. Helen loved horses and horseback riding.
Helen is survived by her sons, Miles (Cheryl) Duck of Mason City and Melvin Duck of Osage; her three grandchildren, Angela (Allan) Overcast and their children Annemarie and Anthony all of Billings, Montana, Laura (Kevin Stokes) Duck and their children Evabelle and Coralyn all of Ames, Kendal (Elizabeth) Duck and their children Trystan and Trevor all of Arlington, Minnesota;
Helen is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Murray in 2000; a daughter, Jana Duck in 2010; five brothers; twin infant great-grandsons, Richard and Robert Overcast.
