Charles Edward Kittleson, age 71, of St. Ansgar, Iowa, passed away on July 10, 2015, at his home south of St. Ansgar. He had fought a valiant fight against pancreatic cancer.
Charlie was born on March 9, 1944, at Austin, Minnesota, the son of Carl B. Kittleson and Lola Clara (Dieterich) Kittleson. He attended St. Ansgar schools and began working for his father and uncle, raising potatoes and onions on the peat bog at Fertile, Iowa. Later he was in business with his brother, John, continuing the farm known as "Kittleson Brothers." He served in the Iowa National Guard from 1964 to 1969.
Charles was united in marriage to Karen Rae Rosenberg, daughter of Ray and Barbara (Pike) Rosenberg, on December 21, 1968. To this union were born three children: Shawn Renae, Pamela Jean and Rodney Charles Kittleson.
He is survived by his wife, Karen; his three children: Shawn (Michael) Kloss, Pam (Daniel) Morse, and Rod (Allison Thurnau) Kittleson; by four siblings: Kermit Kittleson, Karla (Terry) Anderson, Mary (Laird) Mott, and John (Carmen) Kittleson; by grandchildren: Trevor, Eleigh, and Amelia Kloss, Lexus, Anthony and Aurora Morse, and Devin, Levi, Tori, Charleigh and Garret Kittleson; and a by great-grandson, Gannon Kunkel.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
Charles enjoyed boating on the Cedar River and doing woodworking in his work shop.
He was a member of First Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar.

ST. ANSGAR, IOWA - Charles E. Kittleson, 71, of St. Ansgar, passed away peacefully, at home on July 10, 2015, surrounded by loving family after a long courageous battle with Pancreatic Cancer.
A Celebration of Life is planned for 11 a.m. Saturday, July 18, 2015, at the Kittleson Family Farm, 15600 410th St., St. Ansgar, Iowa, at the river with Pastor Lance Kittleson officiating.
The Family requests casual attire. There will be a boat procession following the service, to give Charlie his last ride. Family and friends are encouraged to join. Arriving by boat is welcomed to the service also.
In lieu of flowers the family requests you donate to your local charity or St. Ansgar Rescue, St. Croix Hospice of New Hampton or Walk for Smiles of Osage.
Charles was born on March 9, 1944 in Austin, Minn. Charlie was baptized, confirmed and a lifelong member of First Lutheran Church of St. Ansgar. He attended St. Ansgar School. Charlie served in the National Guard Transportation Unit of Mason City and was a Legion Member of St. Ansgar.
Charles and Karen (Rosenberg) were married on December 21, 1968 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in St. Ansgar. They made their home in the St. Ansgar area. In 1974 they moved into their current home, which Charles had built on the family “Century” Farm.
Charles farmed with his father Carl and Uncle Jake producing Kittleson Bros. potatoes and onions. Later his brother John joined him farming, continuing the Kittleson Brothers tradition. Charlie loved and took great pride in the family business and meeting the public.
Riding motorcycle and taking motorcycle trips with Karen and friends was one of his favorite outings. His enjoyment of the river from younger years, waterskiing and teaching others to waterski, continued into later years by cruising and relaxing up and down the river with his favorite music, “Pontoon” by Little Big Town playing. He could be found woodworking in his shop and building furniture for their grandchildren, finishing the last three toy boxes just three months ago. A couple of his proudest projects were constructing the stairs and railing he built in his home and his workshop table, all the while undergoing chemotherapy.
Anyone who knew Charlie knows how generous and kind he always was. Charlie’s devotion as a father and husband role was the most precious thing in his eyes as well as his commitment to the family farm.
Charlie had pancreatic surgery in February 2013 and was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in February 2014. His strength and positive attitude was a quiet lesson he taught his family and friends.
Charles is survived by his wife, Karen (Rosenberg) Kittleson; daughters, Shawn (Mike) Kloss and Pamela (Dan) Morse; son Rodney (Alli) Kittleson; grandchildren, Trevor, Eleigh and Amelia Kloss, Lexus DeMay, Anthony and Aurora Morse, Devin, Levi, Tori, Charleigh and Garret Kittleson; great-grandchild Gannon DeMay-Kunkel; siblings, Kermit Kittleson, Karla (Terry) Anderson, Mary (Laird) Mott and John (Carmen) Kittleson; mother-in-law Barbara Leraaen; sister-in-laws, Terry (Gary) Johnson, Rebecca Rosenberg and Sharon (Mark) Krebsbach; brother-in-law Randy (Jena) Rosenberg; and numerous nieces and nephews.
