BRADFORD, Mathilda Karoline (Haugerud Peterson) 1975-1962

Mathilda Karoline Haugerud was born May 18, 1875 on a farm in Meroa, Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa to Ole the Younger Rustand Haugerud and Maren Torine Ask, their sixth child.

She was baptized on June 20, 1875 at the newly built Rock Creek Lutheran Church at Meroa, Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa. Her baptismal sponsors were: Mr & Mrs Gulbrand Gulbrandsen, Ivar Elsrud and Karen Ask.

In 1879, her parents sold their farm "Haugerud" and moved to North Dakota to homestead land.
Found in the 1880 census living on a farm at Drayton, Pembina, Dakota Territory: Ole O. Haugerud 46, Mary Haugerud 33, Laura Haugerud 12, George Haugerud 10, Matilda Haugerud 5, Annetta Haugerud 3, Tolef Johnson 27.

Mathilda may have had a son (not 100% sure) while living in North Dakota, his name was Millard Benoney Haugerud (b August 13, 1894 at Grafton, Walsh, North Dakota, d 1957 at Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada)(father unknown, Millard was raised by his grandparents but appears in the censuses as their son, not grandson).

Sometime between 1895 and 1900 Mathilda moved with her parents east to live on a farm in Wisconsin.

Found in the 1900 census living at Brannon, Price, Wisconsin: Ole Haugerud 64, Maren Haugerud 53, George 29, Mathilda 24, Otto 18, Alfred 17, Ida 14, Milliard 5.

On July 9, 1900, Mathilda married John Peter Peterson (b July 15, 1876 Sweden, d January 30, 1915 Saskatchewan, Canada) at the Trinity Lutheran Church, Rhinelander, Oneida, Wisconsin.
The couple had 5 children: Mabel Lillian Peterson (b 1901 Wisconsin - 1999); Lloyd Otis Tilford Peterson (b 1903 Wisconsin - 1996); Edna Pearl Peterson (b 1905 Canada- 2000 ); Viola Juliette (b February 1907 Canada - 1907) and Alice Viola Peterson (b 1907 Canada - 2002 ).

In 1903 or 1904, John & Mathilda Peterson and family left Wisconsin to emigrate to Canada as did her parents.

Found in the 1906 census living at Humboldt, Saskatchewan, Canada: John Peterson 30, Matilda Peterson 30, Mabel Peterson 5, Loyd Peterson 3, Edna Peterson 1, Melis Dacota 35. *****

Found in the 1911 and 1916 censuses living at 21, Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, Canada:
1911: Peter Peterson 37, Matilda Peterson 36, Mabel Peterson 10, Lloyd Peterson 8, Edina Peterson 6, Alice Peterson 4.
1916: widowed: Mathilda Peterson 40, Mable Peterson 15, Lloyd Peterson 13, Edna Peterson 11, Alice Peterson 7.

Mathilda Peterson's second marriage was to Raymond Nelson Bedford (b March 29, 1881, d October 28, 1976).
Raymond and Mathilda had 1 son: Manville (b 1919 Canada, d 2002 Canada).

Mathilda Bradford died on April 24, 1962 at the Mission Hospital at Mission City, British Columbia, Canada. She is buried at the Maple Ridge Cemetery, Maple Ridge, British Columbia, Canada beside her second husband Raymond Bedford.

There is a memorial for her at Find a Grave #101974742.
