Peter Johnson Pedersen (Peterson) was born October 20, 1859 at rural Mitchell, Mitchell County, Iowa to John Pedersen Maakestad and Martha Nielsdatter Johnson, the first of their eight children. He was baptized on November 27, 1859 at the First Lutheran Church at St Ansgar, Mitchell, Iowa.
Found in the 1860 census living on a farm at Mitchell, Mitchell, Iowa: John Peterson 26, Martha Peterson 18, Peter 8 mos, born in Iowa.
Found in the 1870, 1880 censuses at Newburg, Mitchell, Iowa:
1870: John Peterson 32, Martha Peterson 29, Peter Peterson 11, Wrene Peterson 8, Edward Peterson 5, Joseph Peterson 3/12, Andrew Angarrus 30.
1880: John Peterson47, Martha Peterson 37, Peter G. Peterson 20, Gurena Peterson 18, Joseph J. Peterson 10, Edward Peterson 6.
Peter married Netta Nilsen on March 6, 1887 at the First Lutheran Church at St Ansgar, Mitchell, Iowa.
The couple had three children:
1. Mary Josephine Pederson (b April 4, 1891, married Harold Mansfield (b 1890 Illinois) on August 15, 1920, d unknown).
2. John Martinius Pederson (b February 3, 1893 in Clear Lake, Iowa, d January 17, 1974, Mason City, Cerro Gordo Co, Iowa); married Esther Caroline Ransom March 24, 1918 at Mason City, Iowa; Esther born June 27, 1899, Iowa, d November 24, 2001 Mason City, Iowa; buried at Osage Cemetery.
3. Ellen Annette Pederson (b Oct 1897 Iowa)
Found in the 1900, 1920 censuses at Lake Township, (Clear Lake) Cerro Gordo, Iowa:
1900: Peter J Peterson 40, Nettie Peterson 32, Mary J Peterson 9, John M Peterson 7,Ellen A Peterson 2, Walter A Glaus 24.
1920: Peter J Pederson 60, Nettie Pederson 52, John Pederson 36.
Peter J Peterson died June 24, 1943 at Clear Lake, Cerro Gordo, Iowa and is buried at the Clear Lake Cemetery, Clear Lake, Cerro Gordo, Iowa.
NOTE: The spelling of his surname was found as Pedersen, Pederson and Peterson.
