DEATH NOTICE:
CARPENTER, IOWA - Harvey C. Horsfall, 97, of rural Carpenter died on April 15, 2015, in Mason City.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, April 20, 2015, at Deer Creek Lutheran Church, Carpenter, with the Rev. Lance Kittleson officiating.
Burial will be in the St. Ansgar Cemetery.
Visitation is scheduled for Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m. at Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, St. Ansgar.

He was born August 25, 1917, to Clarence S. and Lydia E (Hollatz) Horsfall on the Boening farm north of St. Ansgar. He attended Spring Valley and Fairview country school before moving to his current home in 1930 when he was in seventh grade, graduating from Carpenter High School in 1936. He was confirmed at Deer Creek Lutheran Church.
Harvey enlisted in the U.S. Army on March 17, 1942 at Fort Des Moines and received his basic training in Texas as part of Hq. Battery 96 Anti-Aircraft Artillery Command gun. He attained the rank of Staff Sergeant and trained as radar repairman and in AAFPOA ground electronics. He was stationed in Hawaii, serving as a radar technician. Harvey was awarded an American Theater Service Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Theater Service Ribbon, and Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged on Nov. 16, 1945 at Camp McCoy, Wis.
Harvey attended Iowa State University studying electrical engineering and was a member of Theta Delta Chi Fraternity.
Harvey married Emma (Lois) Trantanella on May 29, 1948 at Holy Redeemer parsonage in St. Paul, Minnesota.
They lived their entire married life on the farm east of Carpenter. Along with farming, Harvey also worked 16 years at Wilson Foods in Albert Lea, retiring in 1982.
Harvey is survived by his wife Lois of 66 years, son Stanley and Carol of Mason City and their children Ryan (Stephanie) Horsfall, Katie Horsfall, and James (Abbi) Horsfall; daughter Linda and Sam Kruse of McIntire and their children Benjamin (Lori) Kruse, Brian (Lisa) Kruse, and Brooke (Erik) Haugen; and son Harvey and Becky of Mason City and his children Rosalie (Aaron) Anderson and Jacqueline Horsfall. (Frank’s children) Jenny (Nate) Canier and Elisha Horsfall; (Mary’s children) Christine (Michael) May, Betsy (Geoff) Aker, Jeffrey (Holly) Freese and Joseph (Brandie) Freese; and 26 great-grandchildren.
He was preceeded in death by his parents Clarence and Lydia (Hollatz) Horsfall, sister Dorothy (Hal) Nicks, son Edward in 1954, daughter Mary Kay Freese in 2003, son Frank in 2013, and great-grandson Jon Horsfall in 2015.
