March 23, 1902 – May 22, 1997
ROCK FALLS, IOWA - Otto George Schlobohm, 95, of 1000 N. Eisenhower Ave., Mason City, formerly of Rock Falls, died Thursday (May 22, 1997) at the Nora Springs Care Center.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Eden Presbyterian Church, rural Rudd, with the Rev. John Bates officiating. Burial will be in Rock Falls Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Sheckler Colonial Chapel, 114 N. Hawkeye St., Nora Springs, and will continue one hour prior to services on Saturday at the church.
Otto George Schlobohm was born March 23, 1902, in Rock Falls, son of William August and Margaret (Buckman) Schlobohm. He married Mary A. Marston on Jan. 10, 1931, in South Dakota.
Otto was raised east of Rock Falls and attended Rock Falls Schools. He farmed in the area until 1940, when he moved into Rock Falls and owned and operated the DX Service Station for 50 years. He also worked the ``sugar beet run'' at the Crystal Sugar Beet Plant north of Mason City for several years.
Through his efforts, the ``falls'' on the Shell Rock River at Rock Falls were reconstructed in 1969. He assisted in the construction of the Covered Bridge at Wilkinson Park. Otto was the first Rock Falls school bus driver.
Otto was a member of Rudd Eden Presbyterian Church where he had served as deacon. He was also a member of the Kinney Pioneer Museum, Mason City, and he served on the Rock Falls City Council for approximately 15 years.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Schlobohm of Mason City; four sons, the Rev. William Schlobohm and his wife, Naomi, of Coal Valley, Ill.; Dr. Richard Schlobohm and his wife, Phyllis, of Mill Valley, Calif.; James Schlobohm and his wife, Sally, of South Bend, Ind.; and John Schlobohm and his wife, Patricia, of Clear Lake; 16 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Grace Schlobohm of Nora Springs, and Leona Phillip of Osage; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, John Wohlers and Alvin Schlobohm; and one sister, Molly Brandau.
