ALDEN - George William Nicholson, 83, of Alden died Thursday, July 25, 2002, at the Franklin General Hospital in Hampton. Services were held Monday, July 29, at the Immanuel Memorial United Church of Church in Alden with burial in the Alden Cemetery. Rev. Bob Miller officiated Military rites were provided by the Hyman-Peavey American Legion Post No. 188 of Iowa Falls.

George was born May 28, 1919, at Little Cedar to George and Cora (Bird) Nicholson. He attended school at Little Cedar and served in the United States Army. On Nov. 4,1941, he married Edna Bessman at Osage.

He worked as a maintenance man for Ralston Purina in Iowa Fails. George was a member of the lmmanuel Memorial Church in Alden and the Borschel-Schwebke VFW Post No. 8707, Iowa Falls. He enjoyed camping with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Edna; a son, Duane, and wife Kay of Alden; a grandson, Jeffrey Nicholson, and wife Anita of Iowa City; two granddaughters, Julie Reynolds and husband Robert of Alden and Jennifer Sievers and husband Jeff of Norwalk; seven great-grandchildren; and a brother, Paul Nicholson, and wife Clarice of Orchard. His parents; five sisters, two brothers; and a baby brother preceded him in death.

Suns Funeral Home of Alden was in charge of arrangements.
