Hans Lauritz Olson was born March 19, 1861 at Meroa, Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa to Levor Olson Lindelien and Ingeborg Olsdatter Uhlen, the second of their eleven children.
He was baptized on June 9, 1861 at the First Lutheran Church at St Ansgar, Mitchell, Iowa.
He was confirmed on April 23, 1876 at the Rock Creek Lutheran Church at Meroa, Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa.
Hans appears as a student (at age 11) at Walnut Grove # 7 in Meroa, Iowa in 1872 with his brothers, Gerhard(age 8) and Oscar (age 5).
Found in the 1870 -1885 censuses living on a farm just north of Meroa, Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa:
1870: Levi Oleson 45, Isabel Oleson 36, Lewis Oleson 9, John Oleson 6, Oscar Oleson 4, Torena Oleson 1, Ole Hawlson 57, Jane Hawlson 77.
1880: Levi Olieson 55, Isabel Olieson 44, Lars Olieson 19, Johann Olieson 16, Oscar Olieson 14, Thorine Olieson 11, Peter Olieson 9, Isabel Olieson 4, Anna Olieson 2, Ole Harleson 67, Gertrude Harleson 88, Gabriel Frederickson 20, Hans Strange 20, Julia Johnson 18,
1885: Lewis Olson age 24.
Hans married Berte Gulbrandsdatter Brubaaten on December 28, 1889 at Rock Creek Lutheran, Meroa, Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa. The couple had no children. (Berte born December 24, 1864 at Fjosvigeie, Aadal, Buskerud, Norway, d June 17, 1891 at Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa).
Found in the 1900 census at Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa: Lauris H Olsen 39, Ingeborg Olsen 64 (his mother), Annie Olsen 21, Stephen Erickson 29. Says he is widowed.
Hans next married Mathilde Hoghaug (Mathilde born May 31, 1878 at Mitchell Co, Iowa, d January 13, 1969 Norman, Minnesota) abt 1903 at possibly Walsh, North Dakota.
The couple had 4 children:
Albin Lloyd (b 1903, d 1904);
Mildred Leonora (b 1905, d 1909);
Alice Lydia (b 1908, d 1987); and
Lloyd Maynard (b 1910, d 1916).
Found in the 1920 & 1930 censuses living at Detroit, Becker, Minnesota:
1920: Hans L Olson 58, Mathilda Olson 41, Alice L Olson 11.
1930: Hans L Olsen 69, Matilda Olsen 51, Alice L Olsen 21.
Hans L Olson died May 14, 1930 at Becker, Minnesota and is buried at the Oak Grove Cemetery, Becker, Minnesota.
There is a memorial for him at Find a Grave #133037598.
