Hans Andreas (Nelson) Odden was born April 12, 1869 on a farm at Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa to Lars Nelson Odden and Olea Olsdatter Teigen, the youngest of their nine children.

Hans was baptized on May 25, 1869 at the Rock Creek Lutheran Church at Meroa, Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa. He was confirmed on June 8, 1884 at RCLC.

The family used the surname Nelson until about 1890 when they switched to Odden.

Hans married Oline Christine Maakestad on June 28, 1896 at Rock Creek Lutheran, Meroa, Iowa.

The couple had 3 children:
Lars O (b September 2, 1902 Osage, Iowa, d March 10, 2000 MInneapolis, Minnesota);

Constance Odell (b October 1, 1905 Osage, Iowa, d October 28, 1993 Broward, Florida) and

Hilmar A (b June 23, 1910 Osage, Iowa, d February 28, 1988 Fremont, Dodge, Nebraska).

Found in the 1870 - 1885 censuses at Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa:
1870: Lewis Nelson 40, Olea Nelson 40, Olavis Nelson 14, Martha Nelson 18, Edward Nelson 11, Gabriel Nelson 9, Carl Nelson 5, Ole Nelson 3, Han D Nelson 2.

1880: Lars Nelson 58, Olien Nelson 55, Gabriel Nelson 19, Carl Nelson 17, Ole Nelson 12, Hans Nelson 10.

1885: Hans Nelson age 15.

Found in the 1900 - 1940 censuses at Osage, Mitchell, Iowa:
1900: Hans Odden 31, Olina C Odden 28, Ole L Odden 32. Working as a mechanic.

1910: Hans A Odden 41, Lena (Oline) Christine Maakestad Odden 38, Lars O Odden 7, Constance O Odden 4.

1920: Hans Odden 50, Lena Odden 47, Lars Odden 17, Constance Odden 14, Hilmer Odden 9.

1925: Hans A Odden 55, Lena C Odden 52, Lars O Odden 22, Constone Odden 19, Hilman A Odden 14.

1930: Hans A Odden 60, Lena C Odden 57, M Esther Rowe 34, Ethel M Rowe 25, Mildred Moore 23.

1940: Hans A Odden 70, Lena C Odden 67, Lars O Odden 37, Elmer H Yohe 27.

Hans A Odden died November 9, 1951 at Osage, Mitchell, Iowa and was buried at Osage Cemetery, Osage, Mitchell, Iowa.

There is a memorial for him at Find a Grave #69674581.
