Jorand (Jane) Ingebritsdatter Nelson was born September 5, 1840 at Kvisle, Sigdal, Buskerud, Norway to Ingebret Nelson and Ingeborg Nielsdatter, the youngest of their four children.

Jorand was baptized on October 11, 1840 at Sigdal, Norway.

Jorand left Norway with her parents in 1853 to emigrate to America. They sailed on the ship "Sjofna", arrived at Quebec, Canada, then traveled on to settle at Dodgeville, Columbia, Wisconsin. She attended school in Wisconsin, learned to speak English and shortened her name to Jane.

In 1859, the family moved west to Cedar, Mitchell County, Iowa.

Found in the 1860 census at Osage, Mitchell, Iowa, working as a servant for the Loomis family: Jane Nelson age 20.

Jane married Johan Nikolai Johnson on August 5, 1863 at Mitchell County, Iowa.

The couple had 5 children who were all born at Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa:
Nicolai Johanson (b October 25, 1864, d June 28, 1939 Osage, Iowa);

Edward Elai (b March 2, 1869, d May 24, 1948 Springer, Colfax, New Mexico);

Ingeborg Andrine (b May 25, 1871, d November 17, 1960 Mason City, Cerro Gordo, Iowa);

Caroline (b May 24, 1876, d March 24, 1940 Mitchell Co, Iowa) and

Martin Johanson (b February 22, 1882, d December 2, 1943 Mason City, Iowa).

Found in the 1870 - 1905 censuses living at Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa:
1870: John Johnson 29, Jane Johnson 29, Nicole Johnson 6, Eddy Johnson1, Barney Peterson 19, Jno F Nelson19.

1880: John N. Johnson 39, Jane Johnson 39, Nicolaus Johnson 15, Edward Johnson 11, Isabel Johnson 9, Caroline Johnson 4.

1885: John N Johnson 44, Jane Johnson 44, Nicolas Johnson 20, Elivas Johnson 16, Isabelle Johnson 13, Caroline Johnson 8, Margarette Johnson 3.

1900: Johanes N Johason 59, Jane Johason 59, Martin Johason 18, Samual Edison 22, Elizabeth Edison 15.

1905: Jane Johnson, Martin J.

Jane Johnson died October 13, 1907 at Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa and is buried at the Rock Creek Lutheran Church Cemetery, Meroa, Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa.

There is a memorial for her at Find a Grave #65172168.
