Funeral services were held on Monday, March 28, 1983, at Congregational United Church of Christ, for Howard Lack, 75, who died Friday, March 25, 1983, at the Stacyville Nursing Home. He had been in failing health for several years. The Rev. H. Putney officiated at the service, and burial was in the Orchard Cemetery. Champion Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Howard Walter Lack, son of Horatio W. and Grace E. Lack, was born on May 25, 1907, near Orchard, Iowa. He graduated from the Orchard school and studied liberal arts at Grinnell for one year.
He was united in marriage on April 20, 1929, to Helen Gulliver. He managed the family farm after the death of his father and started farming for himself in 1937. He served as a member of the Orchard school board for 18 years, as Trustee of the Mitchell County Memorial Hospital for 37 years, and as a Director of the Home Trust and Savings Bank for 34 years.
He was preceded in death by a son and two daughters who died in infancy, his parents, two brothers, John and Raymond and a sister, Bessie.
He is survived by his wife, Helen, and by one son, Richard. Also surviving are two sisters, Blanche Tresemer of Orchard and Marilyn Larson of Mission, Texas; three brothers, Julian, Robert and Harold, all of Orchard.
