Jane McIlroy was born between 1805-1810 at Scadden, County Down, Ireland.

She married Richard Torney (b: 1789 Ireland, d: April 28, 1871 Rock, Mitchell, Iowa) on February 23, 1822 at the Church of Ireland, Inch Parish, County, Down, Northern Ireland.

The couple had at least six children:
Thomas (b: January 17, 1822 Ballygawley, Down, Northern Ireland, married Margaret McDowell in Canada, d: April 17, 1899 Riceville, Mitchell, Iowa);

Margaret Ann (b: January 17, 1825 Northern Ireland, married David C. Allen 1844 Canada, d: October 11, 1907 Canton, Lincoln, South Dakota);

Eliza (b: abt 1828 County Down, Ireland);

Richard T. (b August 1, 1833 Canada, married Elizabeth Law 1862 Canada, d July 19, 1922 Mitchell Co, Iowa);

Edward (b: May 1837 Canada, married Rhoda J. 1870 Canada, d: March 31, 1912 Mitchell Co, Iowa);

Jane Mary (b: 1843 Canada).

The family left Ireland to emigrate to Canada between 1828 and 1833 where they settled on a farm.

Found in the 1861 census living at Montcalm, Canada East, Canada: Jane Forney age 50. Episcopalian.

Jane and Richard then emigrated to the United States and settled at Mitchell County, Iowa before 1871, possibly living in Wisconsin for a short time, not sure.

Found in the 1880 census living at Rock, Mitchell, Iowa with son, Richard Torney and family. (Says birth year was 1810): Jane Torney age 70, widowed.

Jane McIlroy Torney died February 27, 1887 at Rock, Mitchell, Iowa and was buried at the Osage City Cemetery, Osage, Mitchell, Iowa.
