James "Jim" Klobassa, age 59, of Elma, Iowa, died Sunday, August 2, 2009 at Colonial Manor in Elma.

James Francis Klobassa was born on April 10, 1950 to Francis and Arlene (Vokaty) Klobassa in New Hampton, Iowa. Jim attended school at St. Williams in Alta Vista and graduated from Crestwood High School in Cresco in 1968.

Jim was a police officer in Elma and Riceville. In 1977 he joined the Mitchell County Sheriffs Department retiring in 2006. Jim was also active in farming most of his life. He especially enjoyed managing his cow-calf herd.

Jim enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time at the Mississippi River at Lansing. His true loves were his daughters. He was a member of St. Bernards Catholic Church in Alta Vista.

Jim is survived by mother Arlene Klobassa of Elma, Iowa; two daughters Kristi and Kayci Klobassa of Elma, Iowa; one sister Charlene (Larry) Meirick of Alta Vista, Iowa, and one brother Gary (Marilyn) Klobassa of Alta Vista, Iowa. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father Francis on July 24, 2005 and a brother Joseph in infancy.

Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery at Alta Vista.

Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Tuesday, August 4, 2009 at Conway-Kolbet Funeral Home in Elma with a scriptural wake service at 5:00 pm. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the funeral home in Elma.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 am on Wednesday, August 5, 2009 at St. Bernards Catholic Church, in Alta Vista, Iowa with Father Ray Atwood as celebrant.
