OSAGE, IOWA - Dale Eugene Stang, age 84, died Sunday, April 6, 2014, at Trinity Center at Luther Park in Des Moines.
Dale donated his body to the Anatomical Gift Association of Illinois with the hope that his gift would assist in research and education.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, April 26, 2014, at First United Methodist Church in Osage with Pastor Sam Mack officiating.
Dale Eugene Stang was born on Dec. 2, 1929, in Dubuque, the son of Esther (Hill) and Herman Stange. His family lived on a farm near Bernard and moved to a farm south of Osage when he was 9 years old. He graduated from Osage High School in 1948.
He lived in St. Petersburg, Florida, and worked in a Cadillac garage before joining the Army. At Fort Benning, he was trained as a paratrooper. He returned to Osage in 1953 and worked at Oliver in Charles City. He then went to work for Roy Walters learning how to do auto body work. In the mid-50s he and Dick Dean opened Dick and Dale’s Body Shop. In addition to body work, they sold boats, motors, canoes, snowmobiles, and trailers. He met Sarah (Hudtloff), who was teaching in Osage, and they married on June 6, 1958. To this union four children were born. He retired in 1995.
Dale was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Conservation Club, American Legion, the Experimental Aircraft Association and the Gold Wing Road Riders Association.
Dale enjoyed gardening, flying, golfing, boating, snowmobiling, and motorcycling.
Dale is survived by his children: Mark (Marcia) Stang of Dover, Ark., Eric (Elle) Stang of Blue Bell, Penn., Alan Stang of Phoenix, Ariz., and Jeanne (Gary) Swenson of Kelley; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Lois Phillips of Pouder Canyon, Colo,; nieces, Jean Soderling and Lou Ann Soderling of Fort Collins, Colo.; and nephew, Bill (Pam) Rodewald of Ankeny.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; brother, George Stang; and sister, Carolyn Rodewald.
