ST. ANSGAR, IOWA - Don Hendrickson, 83, of St. Ansgar died on Tuesday, April 1, 2014, at his home.

Memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, April 5, 2014, at First Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar, with the Rev. W. Paul Weeg officiating.

ST. ANSGAR, IOWA - Don R. Hendrickson, 83, of St. Ansgar, died on Tuesday, April 1, 2014, at his home.

Memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2014, at 2 p.m. at First Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar, with the Rev. W. Paul Weeg officiating.

Military honors will be conducted by the Walter T. Enneberg Post No. 358 of the American Legion. Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home of St. Ansgar is in charge of arrangements.

Don was born on June 16, 1930, to Morris B. and Ruth (Engebretson) Hendrickson in Osage. He was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar. He attended country school at Newberg No. 6, St. Ansgar Middle School, graduated from St. Ansgar High School and attended St. Olaf College.

In 1951 he entered the military service serving in England and Germany, being honorably discharged in 1953.

On June 12, 1955, Don married Leanna Morley in Forest City. To this union four children were born: Joan, Dodge City, Kan., Jon, Windsor, Calif., Mark (Beverly), Osage, James, St. Ansgar.

Don farmed most of his life on the Century Farm southwest of St. Ansgar.

He served on the St. Ansgar School Board, Mitchell County Board of Supervisors, Mitchell County Hospital Board of Trustees as well as other various civic boards.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, a sister and a brother.

He is survived by his wife, Leanna; children, Joan, Jon, Mark and Jim; seven grandchildren, Jacob, Adam, Julia, Marissa, Parker, Avery and McCabe.
