Funeral services for Kenneth Orville Eide, 75, were held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 9 in the Congregational Church of Riceville with the Reverends Shurmaine McAlpine and John Gilbert officiating. Mr. Eide passed away on Wednesday, January 6, 1988 at the Riceville Community Rest Home.

Kenneth Eide was born July 20, 1912 near Forest City, Iowa, the son of Enoch and Helen (Egenes) Eide. He was baptized at Forest City and later confirmed at the Winnebago Lutheran Church near Lake Mills. He attended rural schools in Hancock and Winnebago Counties.

In 1928 he moved with his parents and family, to a farm near Riceville, In 1942 he joined the armed forces and served in the European Theatre of War in Italy and Africa during World War II.

After his honorable discharge in 1945, he returned to the Riceville area and farm. He also owned and operated a gas station in McIntire, operated a dry cleaning establishment in Riceville and operated a D-X bulk truck. He also owned and operated the Acme Store for several years. He went into the trucking business and worked at the Riceville Sale Barn. Kenneth held offices of Commander and Adjutant of the Roy Gue Post 244, American Legion, of Riceville, and was Adjutant of the Mitchell County organization.

He is survived by three sisters, Mrs. W. W. (Mildred) Krueger, Albert Lea, Minnesota; Mrs. Martin (Lillian) Bennett, Forest City, Iowa; and Mrs. W. T. (Bonnie) Tillson, Apache Junction, Arizona; and a brother, Gordon, of Riceville.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and three brothers, Robert, James and Herbert.

Interment was in the Osage Cemetery, with Roy Gue Post 244 of Riceville holding military rites. The Lindstrom Funeral Home of Riceville was in charge of arrangements.
