Ardella Elizabeth (Seefeldt) Strain .. July 15, 1909 -- June 11, 1999
DUBUQUE - Ardella E. Strain, 89, of Dubuque, died Friday (June 11, 1999) at the Luther Manor, Dubuque.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at St. John's Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar. Burial will be in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. today at Egelhof Seigert and Casper Funeral Home, 1145 Locust St., Dubuque.
Ardella E. Strain was born July 15, 1909, in St. Ansgar, to Otto and Anna Duneou Seefeldt.
She grew up on a farm near St. Ansgar. Her family spoke mostly German in their home, so she spoke very little English when she started school. She graduated from Osage High School in and went to Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls for two years.
She married Richard Strain in Macon, Mo., on June 14, 1938, while she was a school teacher in Dunkerton. They moved to Dubuque in 1947 when he was transferred to the Dubuque John Deere plant. At that time, she went to work at Stampfers Department Store. Richard died in 1973.
She is survived by one son, Jim Strain and his wife, Kathy, of Grosse Ile, Mich.; two grandsons, Douglas Strain, of Dearborn, Mich., and Scott Strain, of Waterloo; two sisters, Wilma Frank, of St. Ansgar, and Irene Secrest and her husband, Don, of Waterloo.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to TTT, Camp Girl Fund, care of Suzanne Boeckmann, 1280 Dunleith Ct., Dubuque, Iowa 52003.
