Gerald Keith Plowman, 84
Gerald Keith Plowman died January 1, 2014.
He was born on August 20, 1929, in Otranto, Iowa, to Mr. and Mrs. George Plowman. He moved to Lyle, Minnesota, in March of 1936, where he attended country school through the eighth grade and farmed with his folks and brother, Mahlon. In 1963, he moved with his parents to Monument, Colo. He worked for LPW Asphalt Paving in Colorado Springs, Colorado, for 20 years.
Gerald loved Jesus. He was a member of the Monument Hill Baptist Church, where he was baptized, served as an usher and also worked in maintenance. He loved his church family and doing what he could for them all. He especially enjoyed being with his nieces and nephews, and later his great-nieces and nephews. “Uncle” loved the stock car races, and went to them many Friday nights with several teenagers in tow.
He had a great laugh, which made everyone else laugh right along with him. He taught parallel parking at the ranch and rode along for many practice runs around “the track” before driving tests. His favorite song was “The Old Gray Mare, She Ain’t What She Used To Be,” and loved to sing it with great gusto.
Gerald was a resident of Pikes Peak Care Center, where he died New Year’s Day.
He is preceded in death by his parents, George and Margaret Plowman; niece, Cindie Raines.
He is survived by his brother, Mahlon Plowman; sister-in-law, Ramona Plowman; two nephews, Jeff (Twila) and Dave (Donna) Plowman; a niece, Debbie (Edsel) Miller; ten great-nieces and nephews; six great-great-nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 4, at Swan-Law Cascade Chapel in Colorado Springs. Cemetery services were held Monday, Jan. 6, at Monument Cemetery in Monument, Colorado.
