Shirley Darlene Stott, age 87, of Charles City and formerly of Osage, died Tuesday, January 14, 2014, at Cedar Health in Charles City.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 18, 2014, at Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage with Pastor Jim Beranek officiating. The family will greet friends and relatives for an hour prior to and immediately following the service at the funeral home on Saturday.

Inurnment will be at Columbarium Memorial Gardens, Apache Wells Community Church, in Mesa, Arizona at a later date.

Shirley was born May 13, 1926, in Mason City, Iowa, the daughter of Glenn R. and Lena (Cummings) Leaman. She graduated from Mason City High School in 1944 and then attended business school in Mason City. On January 5, 1946, Shirley married Sidney Stott at the First Methodist Church in Mason City.

They moved to Osage in 1953. Shirley was the financial secretary for the First United Methodist Church in Osage for a number of years. She then worked as a secretary at Osage High School and then for many years was a legal secretary for Joe Casey’s law firm in Osage, until her retirement in 1987. Shirley and Sidney moved to Arizona in 1996. After Sidney’s death in 2003, Shirley moved to Charles City. She was a member of PEO Chapters in Osage and Arizona. Shirley enjoyed her grandchildren’s activities, baking and trying new recipes, playing bridge and golf, and reading.

Shirley is survived by her three children, Thomas (Karen) Stott of LeClaire, Stephen (Deanna) Stott of Gretna, Nebraska, and Shelley (Robert) Grimm of New Haven; five grandchildren, Jenny (Deb) Stott of Davenport, Rebecca (John) Taylor of Urbandale, David (Samantha) Stott of Omaha, Nebraska, Michael (Angela) Stott of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, and Jackie (Justin) Muller of Osage; ten great-grandchildren, Izabella, John Thomas and Kameron Taylor of Urbandale, Jaicee Stott and Peter and Hayleigh Charles of Omaha, Nebraska, Samuel Stott and Delaney Stott of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, Gabe and Sydney Muller of Osage; a sister, Bonnie Nettleton of Mason City; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Sidney Stott; and a brother-in-law, Terry Nettleton.
