Agnes Laura (Knight) Kesten – January 2, 1912 – February 5, 1958

FUNERAL AT SARATOGA FOR MRS. LEONARD KESTEN, 46, AILING FOR SEVERAL YEARS

Funeral services for Agnes Kesten, 46, of Chester, who passed away February 5th, were held at Saratoga Presbyterian Church at 2:00 p.m. February 8th. Rev. Jay Rusthoven of Foley, Minnesota, and Rev. Clifford Thaden of Lime Springs, Iowa were in charge of the services.
Interment was at Riverside Cemetery, Riceville. Funeral arrangements were in charge of Martz Funeral Home, Le Roy, Minnesota.
Casket bearers were Robert Lee, A.B. Lee, William Gies, Rudolph Tonjes, Erwin Bliven and George Buresh. Mrs. Warren Gray accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Thaden as they sang “In the Garden’ and “God Will Take Care of You”.

Agnes Laura Kesten was born on a farm in Oakdale Township, near Le Roy, Minnesota on January 2, 1912, to Herbert and Cora Knight.
After an illness of several years, she passed away at the St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, Cresco, Iowa, at 2:25 p.m. on Wednesday, February 5, 1958, at the age of 46 years, 1 month, and 3 days.

During the years she was growing to young womanhood she spent much of her time active in 4-H work, of which she was Health Champion for two years. She also was an active member of the Le Roy Baptist Church. She attended the schools of the community and graduated from the Le Roy High School in 1928.

On September 7, 1932, she was united in marriage to Leonard Kesten, by Rev. Bodenham at Riceville, Iowa. To this union were born two daughters, Leone Lee, now Mrs. Loren Duryee of Austin, Minnesota; and Laura Mae, now Mrs. Wilbur Kleckner of Cresco, Iowa.

After their marriage they resided near McIntire, Iowa, and Le Roy Minnesota until 1946 when they moved to their farm north of Saratoga, Iowa, where they lived at the time of her death.
Shortly after moving near Saratoga she became a member of the Saratoge Presbyterian Church, of which she became a very active member.

Surviving Agnes, in addition to her husband, Leonard, and daughters, are 5 grandchildren, one brother, Alton Knight of Le Roy, Minnesota, and one sister, Florence Knight of Albert Lea, Minnesota, several nieces, nephews and other close relatives and a host of friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and one sister, Genevieve.

Agnes was a consistent Christian and witnessed for her Lord in her daily life as wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend.

We wish to express our sincere thanks and deep appreciation to all our relatives, friends, and neighbors for the many acts of kindness and sympathy shown us during the illness and death of our loved one. Also to all who brought food, flowers, plants and helped in any way while she was ill at home and in the hospital. To the doctors, nurses and hospital staff. For your many visits, letters and cards of sympathy and memorials. May God bless you all.
