Funeral services were held on Thursday, May 21, 1987 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Osage, for Melvin J. Meyer, 79, of Osage, who died Monday, May 18, 1987, at a Rochester, Minnesota, hospital. Rev. L. Connolly officiated, and burial was in the Calvary Cemetery, Riceville, Iowa, with military rites by American Legion Post 278.

Mr. Meyer was a partner in the Meyer-Weber General Store in New Haven for 37 years. In 1981, he retired and moved to Osage. He was born on March 1, 1908 near New Haven, Iowa, to Peter and Katherine (Green) Meyer. He attended New Haven. On May 18, 1935, he married Rose Dunlay at Riceville. Mr. Meyer was a foreman for the Works Progress Administration during the 1930's. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was also a former employee of the U.S. Post Office.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

Survivors include his wife, Rose of Osage; and one brother, Bob of Morgan, Minnesota.
