Steen (Stein) Nelson was born 1838 at Norway.
He emigrated to Wisconsin and married Randvi Maria Aadsdatter Himle on September 11, 1861 at Columbia, Wisconsin.
The couple soon moved to Mitchell County, Iowa and had a daughter, Cecelia Maria Nelson (born May 20, 1863).
Believe that Steen may have fought and died in the Civil War. Found on Ancestry.com: US Civil War Draft Registration Records, 1863-1865 for military duty in the third Congressional District, State of Iowa, June 1863; Mitchell County, Iowa; Cedar township:
Nels Nelson age 21 farmer, single from Norway.
Stein Nelson age 25, farmer, married from Norway.
(Steen was married to Nels' sister, Randvi).
Steen Nelson died May 4, 1864 somewhere in the United States and is believed to be buried at the Riverview Cemetery, Newburg township, Mitchell County, Iowa. He may have fought in the Civil War and died while serving, not sure, but his death date occurs while the War was ongoing.
