THE OBITUARY OF OLE F. HAVIG

Ole Frederickson Havig was born near Braaten, Hedemarken, Norway, November 24, 1852. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church at Braaten. He lived in Norway until nineteen years of age, then immigrated to America. He came directly to St. Ansgar, Iowa. Later he worked for a time in the pineries in Wisconsin, but returned to St. Ansgar where he was to spend the greater part of his life.

June 24, 1874, he was married to Marie Erickson near St. Ansgar, the pioneer pastor Rev. John Olsen, officiating.

In 1911, he moved with his family, to Osage, where he has worked as a carpenter and contractor for seventeen years. In this work three sons, Fred, Alfred and Martin, have been associated with him.

His passing from our midst is felt in church and community; he was a devoted church member; a man of industry and integrity. Nearly a year ago he realized that a malignant disease had gripped him, but not until this spring could he be persuaded to lay aside the implements of his labor, reconciled to the truth that his "working days were done." He passed away September 18, 1928, a little short of seventy-six years of age.

He follows his wife, whose sudden death he has mourned for three years. Two sons and a daughter, too, have gone before him. He is survived by eight children; Frederick, Alfred, Martin, Josephine, Mrs. Clarence Thoreson and Mrs. Alice Schoger of Osage; Chester of Rockford, Iowa and Mrs. Harry Crooks of Nashua, Iowa. One brother, Andrew Havig, lives at St. Ansgar. Twenty-seven grandchildren also survive.
