Memorial services were held Wednesday, November 18, 1986 at Forest Lawn, Claremont, California, for Mrs. Carl (Mildred) Smith, formerly of the Orchard area [Mitchell County, Iowa], and recently of Claremont. She died Sunday, November 16, 1986, at age 65, of cancer.
She was born to Bert and Celeste (Crawford) Jones, at Charles City, Iowa, on July 13, 1921. She lived with her grandparents, George and Jess Crawford, and graduated from Orchard schools. She attended UNI in Cedar Falls, and taught school in Orchard, Floyd, Colwell and Charles City, and later in Covina, California.
She and Carl Smith were married on October 3, 1945. In 1955 she moved to Claremont, California, and taught school as well as working for J.C. Penney Co.
She is survived by her husband, Carl; two daughters, Mrs. Brenda Hunter of Ontario, California, and Mrs. Carmen Shimel of Redondo, Beach, Calif; one son, David Smith of California; one brother, Vernon Jones; two grandsons, Bryce and Blake Hunter; and a nephew, Jeff Jones, all of California.
Memorials may be given to the Cancer Society.
