Obituary for Lee Allwin Dutcher
Lee Allwin Dutcher, 87, Manly, died Saturday, May 11, 2013, at the Manly Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
A funeral service for Lee will be held at 10:30 A.M. Thursday, May 16, 2013, at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 428 West Walnut Street, Manly, with Pastor Linda Johnson Prestholt officiating. Burial will be in the St. John’s Cemetery, rural Grafton, with military honors conducted by members of the Edward Tosel American Legion Post #110, Manly. Visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday at the Bride Colonial Chapel, 110 East Spring Street, Manly. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to service time on Thursday at the church.
Lee Allwin Dutcher, was born on February 21, 1926, in Wheelerwood, Iowa, the son of Lloyd G. and Alma Faye (Hill) Dutcher. Lee was baptized on June 16, 1935, at the United Methodist Church in Plymouth by the Reverend T.C. Collister. He graduated from Plymouth High School in 1944. Lee was inducted into the Army on December 14, 1950, and served his country honorably and faithfully with the 2nd Armored Division in Mainz and Baumholder, Germany until his discharge December 1952. Lee began his career with the Iowa Department of Transportation on March 23, 1953, and retired after 35 years of service on May 6, 1988.
He was united in marriage to Lois Ann Hartwig on September 7, 1958, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Rock Township.
Lee enjoyed working in his yard and garden, fishing, dancing, playing cards, and dominoes. He also loved attending all his grandchildren’s concerts and sporting events. Lee was also an avid Iowa Hawkeye and Minnesota Twins fan.
Lee was a faithful member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Manly since 1958, and served on the church council, and participated in the church dart ball and softball leagues. He also enjoyed over sixties club, and was a charter member of the Manly Lions Club.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Lois Dutcher of Manly; his daughters, Rhonda (Bruce) Bonestroo of Ames, and Leanne Christian of Mason City; his grandchildren, Matthew Bonestroo, Hannah Bonestroo, and Jeremy Christian; his sister, Virginia (Don) Petznick of Osseo, WI; and two sisters-in-law, Dorla Dutcher of Cedar Falls, and Lucille Scharper of Osage; as well as many other extended family members and friends.
Lee was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, Jon Christian; brother, Wayne Dutcher; brothers-in-law, William Scharper, and William Neuman; and a sister-in-law, Jeannette Neuman.
