Memorial services will be at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, December 5, 1986, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Osage, Iowa, for Dr. William Rowland, 57, of Phoenix, Arizona, and formerly of Osage. Mr. Rowland died on Saturday, November 29, 1986 in Phoenix.
Rev. J. Nesheim will officiate. The body was cremated, and burial will be at a later date in the Osage Cemetery. The Osage American Legion No. 278 will present Dr. Rowland's mother with a flag after the church service.
He was born on March 30, 1929 in St. Ansgar, Iowa, to William and Myrtle (Duenow) Rowland. he was a 1947 graduate of Osage High School and received a bachelor of arts degree in 1951 from the University of Iowa. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1952-1955 and graduated from U of I School of Medicine in 1960. He served his internship in Phoenix and then served two years residency in anesthesiology in Denver, Colorado, at which time he was an associate of Dr. Michael DeBakey, a well-known hear surgeon.
Dr. Rowland returned to Phoenix where he worked as an anesthesiologist at various hospitals there. At the time of his death he was on the staff of Thunderbird Hospital in Phoenix.
Survivors include his mother, Myrtle Rowland of Osage; two sisters, Mrs. Courtney (Marcella) Buckmaster of Blaine, Minnesota, and Mrs. Gerald (Diane Faye) Bellis of Des Moines; and a brother, Terry of Minneapolis.
