Charles "Lee" Eilers

Lee Eilers, 93, passed away on March 29, 2013. He was born in Minonk, Illinois, on November 23, 1919, the first of four children to Tjark and Ruth Eilers. Lee was raised and educated in the rural Orchard and Osage, Iowa, areas.

Lee joined the U.S. Navy in 1941 and was honorably discharged in 1947. While on leave in Orange, Texas, he met his future wife, Inez White. They were married on Dec. 23, 1946 in Jacksonville, Texas.

After his discharge from the Navy they settled in Iowa to farm with his family. In 1954, Lee & Inez moved to the Northshore community in Houston, Texas. After 30 years of employment with Armco Steel, Lee retired in 1984 as a Journeyman Electrician. They moved to Inez’s childhood home in Tecula, Texas (Jacksonville, Texas). In 2008, Lee returned to Houston, Texas to be closer to family.

Lee is preceded in death by: his parents: Tjark & Ruth Eilers; wife of 54 years: Inez; an infant daughter: Catherine; a son: Robert; sisters: Lucille Francis & Marie Love and a brother: Dean Eilers.

He is survived by a daughter and Son-in-law of Denver, Colorado, Linda and Marvin Schmidt; a daughter and son-in-law of Waller, Texas, Ruth Ann and Bob Knox; grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.

Memorial services were held Sat., April 20, at 2 p.m., Autry Funeral Home, 1025 SE Loop 456, Jacksonville, Texas. Rev. Dr. Jayson S. Galler of Pilgrim Lutheran Church officiating.
