Peter Halvorsen Gisleson was born March 1855, at Clayton, Iowa to Halvor Gisleson (1826-1907) and Gunhild Pedersdatter (1827-1902). Peter's parents had married in Norway 1852 and emigrated to Clayton County, Iowa in 1854. Peter was the oldest of their five children born in Iowa.

Found in the 1870 - 1895 censuses living at Marion, Clayton, Iowa:

1870: Holver Gesleson 41, Gunnald Gesleson 40, Peter Gesleson 15, Sigera Gesleson 12, Holver Gesleson 9, Ole Gesleson 5, Daryghter gunnild Dunnds 25, Peter Gerundson 24.

1895: Peter H Gislesan age 39.

Peter married Kjersti Clara Olsdatter on September 25, 1875 at Elk Point, Union, South Dakota. They had six children, all born at Clayton County, Iowa: Henry Oscar, George, Olvin Rudolph, Peter Wilhelm, Pauline Ceselie and Clarence Sigvald.

About 1896, the family moved west to settle on a farm near Orchard in rural Floyd county, Iowa.

1900: Peter F. Gisleson 45, Clara Gisleson 48, Henry O. Gisleson 23, George Gisleson 21, Olven R. Gisleson 17, William P. Gisleson 15, Paulina C Gisleson 11, Clarence S. Gisleson 5.

1910: Peter Gisleson 55, Clara Gisleson 58, Henry Oscar Gisleson 34, George Gisleson 32, Clarence S. Gisleson 15, Pauline Gisleson 20. 1915: Peter H. Gesleson 60.

1920: P H Gislason 64, Clara Gislason 68, Henry Gislason 42, George Gislason 40, Pauline Gislason 30, Clarence Gislason 25.

Peter died April 18, 1922 at rural Floyd, Iowa and was buried at the Osage City Cemetery, Osage, Mitchell, Iowa.
