Floyd McKenna, age 94, of Osage, died Wednesday, April 10, 2013, at Mitchell County Regional Health Center in Osage.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 15, 2013, at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage with Pastor Gary Gilbert officiating. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery at Riceville, Iowa. Visitation is from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Sunday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home.
Floyd was born September 13, 1918, on the home farm near David, Iowa, the son of Arthur and Oril (Harrington) McKenna. He attended Riceville High School. On March 15, 1943, he married Lillian Barenz at her parents’ home near McIntire, Iowa. They farmed the century family farm near David. Floyd was a member of David Community Church all of his life and was baptized by immersion at an early age. He was a deacon of the church and Sunday school treasurer for many years.
Floyd was an avid reader. He studied and showed much admiration and respect for many of the individuals that shaped the world, such as Thomas Edison and Charles Lindbergh. Floyd enjoyed all trains, especially steam trains, steam engines and threshing machines. He also enjoyed telling “true stories” about days past and his life and writing daily in his diary. He loved to garden and got many compliments on his gardening skills. Floyd loved his chocolate chip cookies and chocolate candy bars. He enjoyed his time spent with his beloved wife of 70 years and his family.
Floyd is survived by his wife, Lillian of Osage; his children, Ruth (Roger) Stark of Osage, Allen (Margaret) McKenna of Riceville, Dorothy (James) Saltou of Waukon, Glen (Bonnie) McKenna of Chester; 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Grace McKenna; his granddaughter, Lori (McKenna) Livingston; grandson-in-law, Bill Decker; and two cousins, Euna Erickson and Frank Hollenberger.
