The death of Otto H. Koethke at his home at Spirit Lake, Idaho, on Saturday morning, October 8, 1938, marks the passing of one who has made his home here for the past sixteen years. During this time he has made many close friends who will deeply regret his passing.
Mr. Koethke was born at Ultzen Hanover, Germany, April 2, 1883. He came with his parents to Toeterville, Iowa in November 1883, where he spent his boyhood days and received his common school education. Later he attended Business College in La Crosse, Wisconsin and Cincinatti, Ohio.
He later moved to Everdell, Minn., where he was engaged in the lumber business. It was there that he met Mary Katharine Boomgaarden, whom he married on November 25, 1914. After living here for some time they moved west coming to Spirit Lake in August 1921. Mr. Koethke was converted to the Christian faith in August, 1920. Since then he has been a devout Christian worker and a substantial supporter of the churches of which he has been a member.
The members of the family left to mourn his departure are his wife, Mary Katharine, and seven children, Henry, George, Erna, Martha, Mary, Dean, and Faith at the home. Two sisters Mrs. Lena Golnick of Myrtle Minnesota and Mrs. A. Boysen of Casselton, North Dakota and one brother, Louis of Casselton, North Dakota.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon from the Presbyterian Church conducted by Rev. M. W. Schweitzer of Coeur d'Alene and Rev. G. Doll of Spirit Lake. Internment was made in the Greenwood cemetery at Spirit Lake, Idaho.

Otto Henry Koethke was born April 2, 1883 in Germany, the son of Friedrich Ludwig “Lewis” Koethke and Catherine Elizabeth (Toeter) Koethke.
His parents are buried in Pilgrims Rest Cemetery, Myrtle, Freeborn County, Minnesota.
He married Mary Katherine Boomgaarden, the daughter of Friedrich George Boomgaarden and Martha Annis Young. She was born September 18, 1891 in Lincoln County, South Dakota and died August 1973 in Idaho. (birth from SD birth records)
