FRIDAY AT 53Funeral services for Leo Simon, 53, of Stacyville, were held on Monday morning, February 28, at Visitation church in Stacyville. Rev. John Pitzen, nephew of Mr. Simon, officiated, and Rev. V. Hintgen gave the sermon. Burial was made in the Visitation cemetery.
Mr. Simon died Friday, February 25, at the home of his sister, Mrs. Anton Halbach, after an illness of several weeks.
Leo Simon was born in Mower county, Minnesota, to Michael and Magdalen Simon. For the past 25 years he was an active businessman of Stacyville, operating a garage in partnership with Aloys Loescher. Later he operated a blacksmith shop.
In 1943 he sold his shop and went west to work in the Kaiser Ship Yards in Richmond, Calif., for a year and a half. Since the fall of 1944, he has been employed in Denver, Colorado, and at the Carl Theobald Implement shop.
He liked sports and played with the local teams for a number of years, later coaching and managing the teams.
Surviving are five sisters and two brothers: Mrs. John (Emma) Brumm, Mrs. Joe (Anna) Pitzen, Mrs. Anton (Gertrude) Halbach, and Joe Simon of Stacyville, Sister Mary Pacificia of Rockwell City, John Simon and Mrs. Balbina Juenger of Denver, Colorado.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters.
