WERE HELD WEDNESDAYFuneral rites were held last Thursday at Little Cedar for Mrs. Roy Smith, 65, who died Tuesday evening of coronary thrombosis. Rev. H. Tiffany and Rev. R. Oswald, officiated.
Emily Ruth Balsley was born on April 18, 1884, to Homer and Laura Gleason Balsley at Orchard, Iowa. She spent her girlhood days there and followed the vocation of dressmaker.
In 1910 she was united in marriage to Roy Smith. Their first home was at Orchard and then they moved to a farm near Little Cedar in 1943. Emily Smith was a member of the Little Cedar Baptist church until the church burned and then she attended the Methodist church in Little Cedar.
Surviving are her husband; two daughters, Mrs. Olan Cockrum of Austin, Minnesota, and Mrs. Herbert Cockrum of Osage; four grandchildren: Mona, Terry, Katheryn, and Juanita; and two brothers, Clarence and Melvin, both of Osage.
Preceding her in death were her parents, a son, Donald, a sister, Dorothy, and two brothers, William and Carl.
