MRS. AUGUST GROSS
DIED IN LITTLE CEDAR
AT HOME OF DAUGHTER

Funeral services for Mrs. August Gross, 69, were held Tuesday afternoon, September 20, 1949, at the Trinity Lutheran Church.

She died on Sunday of pneumonia at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Wright Julius, near Little Cedar.

She is survived by her husband and five daughters: Mrs. Ira Jenkins of Fergus Falls, Minnesota, Mrs. Ernest Olson of Alexandria, Minnesota, Mrs. John Mahoney and Mrs. Theodore Heather of Westgate and Mrs. Wright Julius of Little Cedar. There are also four brothers and a sister surviving.

Mr. and Mrs. Gross celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary three years ago.

MRS. AUGUST GROSE

Funeral services for Mrs. August Grose, 69, were held last week, Tuesday, September 20, 1949, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Osage, Iowa. The Rev. T. Eickleberg of St. Ansgar officiated and burial was made in the Little Cedar Cemetery. Mrs. E.H. Yohr of Osage sang two solos at the services. Mrs. Grose died on September 18, 1949, after a long illness.

Elizabeth Augusta Rettke, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Rettke, was born on December 29, 1879, in Germany. She was baptized in the Christian faith by the Lutheran pastor in that territory and came to the United States at the age of two years.

She received her education in Hillsboro, North Dakota, and was confirmed by the Rev. Gotthart Potratz in 1893. In 1896 she was united in marriage to August Grose. Five children were born to this union, all near Niagara, N. Dakota.

In 1907 the Groses moved to Iowa where they lived for 13 years. They moved to Parkers Prairie, Minnesota, in 1920 and lived there until May, 1949. At that time Mr. and Mrs. Grose came to Iowa to live with their daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Wright Julius, near Little Cedar.

Mrs. Grose was an invalid the last six years of her life, the result of a stroke.

Surviving are her husband and five daughters, Mrs. Elda Raether and Mrs. Lilly Mahoney of Westgate, Mrs. Dora Julius of Little Cedar, and Mrs. Erna Jenkins of Fergus Falls, Minnesota. There are also 18 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, four brothers and one sister surviving.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters.

August and Elizabeth Grose are buried in Liberty Cemetery in Mitchell county. The top newspaper story did erroneously spell the surname as GROSS.
