Mrs. Dean Foster and Son Die in Car-Truck Accident
Funeral services for Mrs. Dean (Kathryn Ann) Foster, and her nine month old son, Wade, were held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, June 26 in Immaculate Conception Church of Riceville with the Rev. J. W. Bohr officiating.
Mrs. Foster, the former Kathryn Fox, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Fox, and her son, were killed in a 9 a.m. truck-car accident on Friday, June 23, on a Mower County, Minnesota road No. 14, 6 miles southeast of Grand Meadow, Minnesota.
Three other persons were injured in the accident and were admitted to St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota. They include, Mrs. Duane (Patricia) Oulman, a sister of Kathryn, who is still listed in intensive care in the hospital, and who underwent surgery Monday to remove a blood clot in the head; young Chad Foster, 2 year old son of Kathryn, who reportedly was to be released Tuesday of this week, and Jerome Bischoff, 27, of Avoca, Minnesota, who was the driver of the truck. Bischoff was reported in satisfactory condition Monday with a fractured wrist and thumb. Mrs. Oulman is suffering from multiple fractures.
The vehicles collided at the intersection of Mower County Highway 14 and a township road.
Kathryn Ann (Fox) Foster, 22, was born April 4, 1950 in Riceville, Iowa, the daughter of Leonard and Margaret Fox.
She is survived by her husband, Dean, Riceville; one son, Chad, at home; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Fox, Riceville; her maternal grandmother, Mrs. Margaret Arens, St. Paul, Minnesota; three sisters: Mrs. Orville (Diane) Engelhardt, Huron, South Dakota; Mrs. Duane (Patricia) Oulman, Riceville; and Mrs. Ronald (Marilyn) Reis, Lime Springs, Iowa; six brothers: Dennis, Rochester, Minnesota; Bernard, Dubuque, Iowa, Duane, Lawrence, Kansas; Peter, San Diego, California; Richard, Forest City, Iowa and Greg, Riceville.
She was preceded in death by one son, Wade, in the same accident; her maternal grandfather and paternal grandparents.
WADE JAMES FOSTER--
Wade James Foster, 9 months, was born September 26, 1971 at Charles City, Iowa, the son of Dean and Kathryn Foster.
He is survived by his father, Dean, Riceville; one brother, Chad, at home; his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Fox, Riceville; his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Foster, Riceville; his maternal great-grandmother, Mrs. Margaret Arens, St. Paul, Minnesota; his paternal great-grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Jay Foster, Riceville; his maternal great grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Reckner of Riceville.
He was preceded in death by his mother, same accident, and several aunts and uncles.
Interment was in Calvary Cemetery with the Chisholm Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
