Borger Olsen Flatla was born August 31, 1836 at Jevnaker, Gran, Hadeland, Oppland, Norway to Lars Ingvaldsen Flatla and Ingeborg Hansdatter Svinning. Borger was baptized September 18, 1836 at Gran and confirmed on May 4, 1851 at Gran, Norway.
Borger emigrated from Lunner, Hadeland, Norway in April 1868 to Mitchell County, Iowa, traveling on the ship Peruvian and arriving at Quebec, Canada. From Quebec, he traveled on to settle in Mitchell County, Iowa.
He married Kjersti Hovelsdatter Hvattum on February 2, 1875 at Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa. The couple had 6 children, all born at Rock, Mitchell County, Iowa: Randi (born July 3, 1875, died June 2, 1879 Mitchell, IA); Ole (born August 23, 1876, died April 16, 1894 Mitchell, IA); Randi Maria (born March 24, 1880, died January 1, 1968 Butte, California); Hovel (born June 3, 1882, died May 18, 1969 Osage, Mitchell, Iowa); Anna (born February 9, 1888, died February 21, 1888 Mitchell, IA) and Anna (born August 15, 1889, died February 28, 1984 Cresco, Howard, Iowa).
Found in the 1880 - 1900 censuses living at Rock, Mitchell, IA, Farmer:
1880: Borger Flatla 43, Cristy Flatla 24, Ole Flatla 3, Rachel Flatla 2m.
1885: Borger Flatla 48, Christine Flatla 28, Ole Flatla 8, Rande M Flatla 4, Hovel Flatla 2.
1900: Borger Fladle 64, Christe Fladle 44, Mary R Fladle 20, Hovel Fladle 17, Anna Fladle 10.

Borger Olsen Flatla died September 18, 1902 at Rock township, Mitchell County, Iowa and was buried at the Rock Creek Lutheran Cemetery at Meroa, Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa. He has 2 gravestones, photos appear on Find a Grave Memorial # 10903642.
A photo of Borger Flatla appears in the 1911 Mitchell County Iowa Atlas, Section 3, page 19. There is also a reference for the Flatla Family Bible with family history found here at the Mitchell County Gen Web site, bible states his name as Borger Volle Flatla.
