Henry Elmer Thompson was born at Carpenter, Iowa, October 12th, 1877. Baptized the same year by Rev. Nelson at Northwood, Iowa, confirmed by Rev. J. Olsen at the Deer Creek church in 1892, died March 14, 1907 at the Good Samaritan Hospital at Portland, Oregon. At the age of 19 years he went to Walla Walla, Washington, residing there for two years. From there he went to Portland, Oregon, where he resided for three years returning home for one year, and again going to Portland, and remaining there until his death.

For two years during the Louis & Clarks exposition, he was on the Police force, until January 1907, when he began work with a bridge constructing company. While at work the bridge colapsed falling a distance of 40 feet, when found was lying across a rock with 2 timbers across his body. March 12 he had an operation and his back was found to be broken, the operation seemed to be successful until about 15 minutes before he died.

After his accident he wanted to see some of his people and his brother Sam departed at once for Portland and was by his bedside constantly until his death. He consented to be sent home for burial, and was laid to rest at the N.L. cemetery at Deer Creek. Rev. M.E. Waldeland officiating.

He has his father and a sister gone before; and leaves his mother, two brothers and three sisters to mourn his loss, all of whom were present at the funeral.
