Petra Emelia Fjelde was born November 16, 1873 at Cedar township, Mitchell County, Iowa to Peder Olsen Fjelde and Martha Larsdatter Forland, the tenth of their eleven children. She was baptized on December 28, 1873 at the Rock Creek Lutheran Church, Meroa, Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa. Her baptismal sponsors were Ole O and Martha Fjelding (Fjelde) and the baby's mother (written in Norwegian, barnets moder). Have found conflicting birth dates of November 15th and 16th, the church records said 16th.
Found in the 1880 & 1885 censuses living at Cedar, Mitchell, IA:
1880: Peter Field 57, Martha Field 50, Ole Field 25, Edward Field 19, Andrew Field 17, Lars Field 15, Martha Field 10, Emalia Field 6, Peter Field 3.
1885: Peter O Tjelde 60, Martha Tjelde 57, Edward Tjelde 24, Andrew Tjelde 22, Louis Tjelde 18, Martha Tjelde 16, Amelia Tjelde 11, Peter Tjelde 8.
Petra married Andrew Fods in December 1896 at the Rock Creek Lutheran Church at Meroa, Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa.
Found in the 1910, 1930 and 1940 censuses living at Buffalo, Minnehaha, South Dakota:
1910: Andrew Fodds 43, Emelia Fodds 36, Olive Fodds 12, Alice Fodds 7, Peter Fodds 4, Clifford Fodds 2.
Found in the 1920 census at Lake View, Lake, South Dakota: Andrew Fods 53, Emelia Fods 46, Alice Fods 16, Peter Fods 14, Clifford Fods 12, Martha Fods 8, Ellen Fods 5.
1930: Petra Fods 56, widowed, Peter Fods 24, Clifford Fods 22, Martha Fods 19, Ellen Fods 15.
1940: Jake Baklan 45, Olive Baklan 43, Petra Fodds 66.
Petra Emelia Fjelde Fods died December 21, 1961 at Minnehaha County, South Dakota and was buried at the Saint Jacobs Cemetery, Colton, Minnehaha, South Dakota. Her Find a Grave Memorial # is 70658437 with photos of the stone.
