Peder Olsen Fjelde was born February 13, 1825 at Ovre Fjelde farm, Roga​​land, Norway to Ole Endresen Ovre Fjelde (1778-1860) and Berte Olsdatter Hogstad (1789-1865).

Peder was baptized February 20, 1825 and confirmed October 17, 1841 both at Strand, Rogaland, Norway.

Family emigrated to Mitchell County, Iowa in 1872 with 7 children leaving Norway April 5, 1872 and arriving at Quebec, Canada May 21, 1872 on the ship Brodrene.
