Obituary:

Mauston, Wisconsin - Carl J. Stromley, Jr., 80, formerly of St. Ansgar, Iowa, died on Tuesday, December 11, 2012, at his home.

Funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 20, at 10:30 a.m. at Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, St. Ansgar, with the Rev. Dr. Byron Northwick officiating. Burial will be in the Deer Creek Cemetery, Carpenter, Iowa.

Visitation will be on Thursday from 9 a.m. to service time at Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, St. Ansgar.

MAUSTON, WISCONSIN — Carl J. Stromley Jr., 80, died at his home Tuesday, December 11, 2012.

Carl was born April 21, 1932, to Carl and Nettie Halverson Stromley in Deer Creek Township, Mitchell County, Iowa.

The early years of his life he grew up farming and working for farmers in the area. Many stories were kept alive and retold in the family home during this time of his life.

He married Marlene (Jackie) Crawford on March 2, 1952, and moved off the farm to Illinois in 1964 where he became a machinist until he retired in 1997.

After retirement, he moved to Mauston in 1998, where he enjoyed his family, local horse pulls, his garden and the many people in the area, including his good friends Ron Lund and Dean Noth.

Carl is survived by his children, Michael Stromley of Missouri and Susan (Benjamin) Farmer of Wisconsin; grandchildren, Daniel (Amy) Stromley of Wisconsin, Jody (Lilly) Farmer of Illinois and Jeremy (Wendy) Farmer of Illinois; great-grandchildren, Christian, Sarah, Alex, Jake, Mason and Tyler; sisters, Loretta Hoffland, Ruth Patterson, Louise (Bob) McPhail, Jane Rieman, Rose Rekow, Inez (Francis) Hommez, Gladys (Arnold) Groth, Lillian Warrington, Betty (David) Tollefson and Dianne Petznick; and 44 nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; infant sister, Mary Jane; brothers, Orville and Kenneth Stromley; niece, Patricia McPhail; brothers-in-law, Darrel Patterson, Ray Rekow, Larry Warrington, Glenn Petznick, Ira Hoffland and Jurn Rieman; and sister-in-law, Evelyn Stromley.

A funeral service was held Thursday at Schroeder and Sites Funeral Home, St. Ansgar, Iowa, with the Rev. Dr. Byron Northwick of the Immanuel Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar, officiating. Burial took place at Deer Creek Cemetery, Carpenter, Iowa.
