OSAGE, IOWA - Marti Friest, age 54, of Stacyville, Iowa, and formerly of Osage, died Friday, November 16, 2012, at the Mitchell County Regional Health Center in Osage.
Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 20, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Osage with the Rev. Roy Ott officiating. There will be a time of lunch and fellowship following the memorial service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Humane Society, P.O. Box 877, Austin, MN 55912.
Marti was born on December 21, 1957, in Winfield, Kansas, the daughter of Larry and Martha Jo (Cole) Detwiler. She graduated from Blytheville High School in Blytheville, Arkansas, in 1975. Marti achieved her master's degree from the University of Northern Iowa in 1990.
She taught classes at Kirkwood Community College and at North Iowa Area Community College. Marti also worked at Workforce Development in Mason City and most recently at the LeRoy Independent Newspaper. She was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, the Lions Club in Adams, Minn., and the Mitchell County Historical Society.
Marti enjoyed sewing, scrapbooking, needlepoint, card making, cooking, gardening and collected antique glass.
Marti is survived by her significant other, Ken Wendt of Stacyville; her two children: Andrea (Kurt) Zimmer of Seymour, Indiana, and Zach (Tina) Friest of Charles City; Ed Friest of Charles City; five grandchildren; a brother, Jack (Cathy) Detwiler of Jackson, Tennessee; and a nephew, Matthew Detwiler.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
