RICEVILLE, IOWA - Janet A. Porter, age 76, of Riceville, formally of Waterford, Michigan, died November 7, 2012, at the Riceville Family Care & Therapy Center.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, November 12, at the Cresco Community Chapel in Cresco, Iowa, with the Rev. Michael Simiele and the Rev. Jeffery Porter officiating. Burial will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday at Riverside Cemetery in Riceville.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Lindstrom Funeral Home in Riceville, and one hour before services at the church in Cresco.

Janet Porter

Janet Ann Porter of Riceville, Iowa, went home to heaven to be with her Lord on Wednesday, November 7, 2012.

Janet was born to John A. and Pearl (Spaven) McIntyre on July 8, 1936 in Almont, Michigan. She graduated from Lake Orion High School. She married Billy G. Porter on June 18, 1955. To this union seven children were born. Bill and Janet moved from Michigan to Riceville, Iowa in July, 1993. Janet was a loving and generous wife, mother, and grandmother. She worked as a retail clerk, cleaned houses, and catered many events until they retired and moved to Riceville. She devoted her life to serving others. She belonged to Cresco Community Chapel in Cresco, Iowa.

She loved spending time with her family and traveling to Florida and Texas in the winter months. She loved cooking for her family, sewing, reading, gardening and shopping. She has been a resident at the Riceville Family Care and Therapy since 2010. She loved her fellow residents and caretakers there.

Janet is survived by her cherished husband, Billy for 57 years, her beloved six children Linda (Joel )Yorgey of Riceville, Bonnie (Bob)Crawford of Riceville, Jeffrey (Jerrilyn) Porter of Oxford, Michigan, Jerri (Peter) Coleman of Pontiac, Mighigan, Terrie Ann Porter of Haughton, Louisiana, Yvonne Goryca (friend, Paul Snyder)of Farmington, Michigan. Janet will also be greatly missed by her grandchildren; Kristi (Nate) Gillen, Benjamin (Teri) Crawford, Mike (Kacie) Crawford, Nick Crawford, Marissa Yorgey, Jillian and Jenna Porter, Steven and Holly Goryca. Also, three great-grandchildren, Zachary, Austin, and Hayle Gillen. A sister, Evelyn Bugenski of Washington, Michigan, two brothers; William(Judith) McIntyre of Prescott Valley, Arizona, John (Pat) McIntyre of Oxford, Michigan, two sisters-in-law; Joann McIntyre of Owasso, Michigan, JoAnne (Dick) Hoag of Rochester Hills, Michigan; two brothers-in law, Daniel Porter of Stuart, Florida, Kenneth (Mary Ellen) Porter of Ft. Pierce, Florida and many nieces and nephews.

Janet is preceded in death by her parents, John and Pearl McIntyre, her in-laws Floyd and Dorothy Porter, an infant son, Steven; two brothers, J.D. McIntyre and Emerson McIntyre, sister-in-law, Carolyn Porter, brother-in-law Chet Bugenski; three nephews, Daniel, Jim, and David Bugenski.

Visitation:
Friends may call at the Lindstrom Funeral Home in Riceville on Sunday during the hours of 4 - 7 P.M. and one hour before services at the church in Cresco.

Service:
Funeral services will be held at the Cresco Community Chapel in Cresco, IA on Monday November 12, 2012 at 11 A.M. with the Rev Michael Simiele and Rev, Jeffery Porter officiating.

Cemetery:
Burial will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Riverside Cemetery in Riceville, Iowa.
