Last rites for Martin A. Tollefson were conducted at the First Lutheran church in St. Ansgar, April 19 with the Rev. Olaf A. Langehough in charge of the obsequies. Burial was in the First Lutheran Cemetery.

Martin A. Tollefson, third son of Tollef and Aase Tollefson, was born April 15, 1871, at his father's farm north of St. Ansgar and passed away suddenly from a heart attack in Osage, Iowa on April 15, 1947.

He was baptized by Pastor C.L. Clausen and confirmed in the First Lutheran church by Pastor Johan Olsen. He attended the Clyde school and finished a business course at the St. Ansgar Seminary.

On June 15, 1897, he was united in marriage to Edith M. Lovestrom and to this union was born three children, two of whom died in infancy. He was preceded in death by his wife on February 2, 1939.

Martin farmed in the vicinity of St. Ansgar nearly all his life, at the same time serving as assessor consecutively in St. Ansgar and Newburg townships, also as secretary-manager of the St. Ansgar Cooperative Creamery for 12 years. The last four years of his life, following a severe stroke and later an embolism, he has spent his life in retirement on his farm west of St. Ansgar.

He was handicapped for many years by being hard of hearing. Martin was at all times a christian gentleman and good citizen. His has truly been a full, busy and fruitful life marked by his square dealings and adherance to the golden rule.

He leaves to mourn his departure one son, Clifford M. of St. Ansgar, three grandson, David, Robert and Ray; also one brother, Henry N. of St. Paul, Minn., and one sister, Mrs. Tillie Donhowe of Story City, Iowa.
