Funeral services for Elling M. Torblaa, 78, who died of a heart attack at his home November 17, 1966 were held November 21 at the First Lutheran church with the Rev. Don Comnick officiating.

Elling Martin Torblaa, son of Mikkel and Sarah Borsheim Torblaa, was born on a farm south of St. Ansgar January 9, 1888. He was baptized by the Rev. Johan Olsen at First Lutheran church, St. Ansgar and confirmed in the Shell Rock Lutheran church, Worth County, Iowa. His boyhood days were spent near London and Fosston, Minnesota.

Mr. Torblaa attended the St. Ansgar Seminary and St. Olaf College, Northfield, Minnesota. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Husbandry at Iowa State College, Ames, in June, 1916. On June 11, 1916, he was united in marriage to Nellie Thompson. Mr. and Mrs. Torblaa observed their golden wedding anniversary June 11, 1966.

Mr. Torblaa was in County Extension work for about ten years. He served as land appraiser and worked in the loan department of the Federal Land Bank in Omaha during the depression, and later as a director of the Federal Land Bank in Mason City. Mr. Torblaa farmed west of St. Ansgar for fourteen years and served as a "GI-On the Farm Training Instructor" for almost eleven years. He also helped organize the Cedar Valley Electric Cooperative, and served as a director for nearly fourteen years. He was also an active member of the Lion Club of St. Ansgar.

Always deeply interested in his church, Mr. Torblaa held a number of offices through the years, including that of Sunday School Superintendent and a Sunday School teacher for a number of years. Elling had a keen interest and understanding of "The Parish Conservation Program" of the American Lutheran Church and he helped organize and has served actively on the board of the North Iowa Lutheran Credit Union.

Mr. Torblaa is survived by his wife, Nellie, two brothers, Melvin and Lloyd of Fosston, Minnesota; two sisters, Mrs. Clarence (Martha) Julien of Slayton, Minnesota; and Mrs. Sidney (Viola) Haugen of Bremerten, Wash.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Mrs. Dora Goplerud and Mrs. Hannah Nelsen.
