Gerine Tenold, 52, West Liberty, died December 4, 2001 in her home with minimal pain after a 20 month valiant battle with infiltrating ductal carcinoma (breast cancer) that had metastasized to her lungs and brain. Graveside services were held December 8 at First Lutheran Church Cemetery in St. Ansgar. Survivors include her mother, Geraldine Tenold, West Liberty; two brothers, Bruce, Waterloo and Mark (Shanna), Burns, TN; two sisters; Jill Tenold and Lori Tenold, both West Liberty; two aunts; Grace Tenold, Kensett, and Lois Tenold, Albert Lea, MN; three nephews; Joshua and Matthew Tenold, AL. and Corey Tenold, TN; one great-nephew, Gavin Tenold, AL; numerous cousins; special friends and co-workers.
Gerine left a positive mark on all who knew her. Gerine was born September 25, 1949 in Mason City, to Vern and Geraldine Tenold. She graduated from Waterloo West High School in 1967, and after moving to West Libery with her family, began working at Loius Rich Foods. After 27 faithful years, Gerine embarked on achieving a degree in English at the University of Iowa after several years of night classes. Gerine graduated with a Liberal Arts Degree and English major on December 19, 1998. Spring 1999 gave her employment at NCS Pearson in Iowa City as a Professional Scorer and later an Editing Production Clerk. Gerine enjoyed writing poetry, Friday restaurant night with her family, going to movies and 60's music. Gerine was devoted to her family and her church of 35 years, Family of Faith Community Church in Cedar Rapids, and left a sterling example of faith and positive spirit. She had no doubt in the promises of God for her future; she has fought the good fight and has finished her earthly race. Her future is sure with God's promises of salvation and her family shares this faith. We know we will meet again.
Gerine was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Lincoln and Ina Priem; her paternal grandparents, Henry and Minda Tenold; her father, Vern Tenold in 1983; Aunts Carma Hagen, Mildred Anderson and Maxine Tenold; and Uncles Orland Tenold, Hardine Tenold, Dean Tenold, Stanley Anderson, Bob Hagen and Eugene Priem. In her honor, a designated quilt square was sent to the Precious Moment's Pink Ribbon Quilt Collection to benefit Breast Cancer.
