May (Mae) Viola Denner was born June 10, 1898 at New Hampton, Chickasaw, Iowa, to Evalyne Cowdell and Frank Denner.
Found in the 1900 to 1915 censuses living at Washington, Chickasaw, Iowa:
1900: Frank Denner 27, Evelyn M Denner 25, Viol May Denner 7, George S Denner 6/12.
1910: Frank Denner 37, Evelyn Denner 35, Samuel Denner 10, May Denner 12, Ruth Denner 4.
1915: May Denner age 16.
May married Leslie Everett Billings sometime in 1920 at Chickasaw, Iowa.
(Leslie E Billings born November 26, 1899 Iowa, died November 8, 1972 Des Moines, Polk, Iowa).
Couple found in the 1920 census living at her parent's farm in Washington, Chickasaw, Iowa: married, working as farm laborers: Frank Dennio 47, Evelyn Dennio 45, May Dennio 21, Samuel Dennio 19, Ruth Dennio 13, Leslie Billings 21. (Unsure why her surname isn't listed as Billings).
May and Leslie had two daughters:
Evelyn Francis Billings (born November 26, 1920 Chickasaw, Iowa, married Lawrence Dieterich April 13, 1941 Osage, Mitchell, Iowa, died September 19, 2004 St Ansgar, Mitchell, Iowa) and
Beverly June Billings (born June 1, 1922 Chickasaw, Iowa, married Gordon Merle Allison May 31, 1942 Nashua, Chickasaw, Iowa, died August 22, 2004 Duluth, St Louis, Minnesota). May and Leslie divorced.
May is found in the 1925 census at Washington, Chickasaw, Iowa, listed as head of household: May V Billings 26, Evelyn Billings 4, Beverley Billings 2.
May and daughters moved to Mitchell County, Iowa. She met and married Chester Palmer Williams on August 24, 1927 at Osage, Mitchell, Iowa.
(Chester P. Williams was born Feburary 8, 1901 Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa, died November 4, 1937 same).
They had a daughter, Betty Elaine (still living in 2012). Family found in the 1930 census living at Rock, Mitchell, Iowa: Chester Williams 29, May V. Williams 31, Betty E. Williams 0 [2/12], Evelyn Billings 9, Beverly Billings 7.
After Chester's death, May and her 3 girls moved to Osage.
Found in the 1940 census living at Osage, Mitchell, Iowa, widowed: Mary Viola Williams 41 (4 yrs high school), sewing, Bettie Elane Williams 10 (4th gr), Evelyn F. Billings 19 (4 yrs high school), Beverly J. Billings 17 (3 yrs high school).
About 1942, May purchased the Meroa General Store Building at Meroa, Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa and operated it for about four years. Her family lived above the store a while and then in a house across the road. The girls attended Walnut Grove # 7 school during that time at Meroa, Iowa.
May married Olaf Cornelius Klemesrud on June 10, 1945 at the Rock Creek Lutheran Church, Meroa, Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa. They had no children and were only married about a year before his early death.
(Olaf C Klemesrud was born February 15, 1898, Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa; died June 6, 1946 Osage, Mitchell, Iowa).
Mae (May) Viola Denner Billings Williams Klemesrud continued living at Osage, Iowa. She died November 25, 1976 at Osage, Mitchell, Iowa and was buried at the Rock Creek Lutheran Cemetery, Meroa, Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa. The Rev. Obert Hoven presided at her funeral. Pall Bearers were: Dave Kicherer, William Stiles, Dennis Dieterich, Bryce and Bryan Gast and Keith Meinders.
