HIT BY TRUCK; DIES INSTANTLY
FUNERAL SERVICES CONDUCTED AT FUNERAL PARLORS HERE SATURDAY MORNING

Struck by a truck as he was crosing the highway south of Lyle, Nels Springer, 71, was instantly killed last Thursday afternoon. No inquest was held. Coroner F.R. Shelledy, who was called to the scene, reported that the death was an unavoidable accident.

Mr. Springer had been walking to his home in Mona from Lyle on highway 218 and at a point three-fourths of a mile south of Lyle, John Strand stopped his car and offered him a ride. Failing to notice the truck approaching, Mr. Springer started to cross the pavement from the left shoulder and a corner of the rack on the truck struck him in the head. Death resulted immediately.

The truck loaded with hogs, was being driven by John Wiss of Floyd who was accompanied by Ward B. Price. The accident occurred about 4:30 o'clock.

Nels Springer was born in Otranto township February 19, 1863. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith by Rev. Olsen. He grew to manhood in this community and in recent years made his home at Mona. Mr. Springer was a lover of nature and was engaged in truck gardening.

He is survived by one sister, Mrs. George Wyborny of Lyle, and one brother, Chris of Charles City.

Funeral services were conducted at the funeral parlors here Saturday morning at 10:30. Rev. Olaf A. Langehough was in charge. Burial was in the First Lutheran cemetery.
