E. A. SPONHEIM DIES AT NEENAH, WISCONSIN AFTER A WEEKS ILLNESS
St. Ansgar business places closed their doors between the hours of 1:30 and 2:30 Tuesday afternoon to pay their last respects to E.A. Sponheim, former business associate, who died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. John Jern, at Neenah, Wisconsin last Saturday following a week's illness.
Funeral services were conducted at the Sponheim home at 1:15 and at the First Lutheran church at 1:30, with the Rev. O.A. Langehough in charge of the services.
Endre A. Sponheim, son of Anders H. and Syneva K. Sponheim, was born September 23, 1870, in Woik, Hardangar, Norway. In 1887 he came to Osage where two of his sisters were employed, and worked for various farmers in that vicinity who had lived in the same part of Norway.
He was ambitious and received higher education at the St. Ansgar Seminary and at the Business College at Decorah. Mr. Gryg, a merchant in Mitchell, was his first city employer. This gave him a taste of the business world, and from then on he was associated with F.J. Kromer, and with Adolph Lund and out of that grew a partnership of Sponheim & Rosel, which lasted for 35 years.
In 1906 he was married to Jennie M. Lund. He was a civic minded, naturalized citizen who tried to practice honesty and fairness in all his business dealings. He was a member of the First Lutheran church of St. Ansgar, Iowa.
For the past five years he had been in failing health and death came last Saturday, April 12, after a week's siege of pneumonia. He was 70 years of age.
He is survived by his widow, and three children; Mrs. John Jern and Lawrence of Neenah, Wisconsin, and Gene of Hammond, Indiana and one grandchild, Ann.
Interment was in the St. Ansgar City cemetery.
